Comic 29

Lit Jam was fun. My workshop students were just as exuberant as the batch last year which was fortunate because the bar was raised high this year by some awesome guest speakers including the talented and wacky cartoonist Ray Friesen. I got to talk shop with Ray after the event and he drew me a picture of a pirate penguin.

Also on the red carpet list was Adam Sidwell author of Evertaster and digital effects artist for some big budget movies including Pirates, Pacific Rim and Thor. I didn't get a chance to meet him since there was a long line of girls waiting for a chance to get Chris Hemsworth's phone number.

Apocalypse Promptly

Alright, I have exhausted my attention to detail on this one.
I'm once again instructing another digital illustration workshop at Lit Jam tomorrow and I might use this as an example. Of all the classes I've instructed and aided the 6th thru 8th grades are my favorite. Everything seems to be awesome and amazing at that age; the wonders of life are climaxing and the gratuitous depression of teenagism hasn't kicked in yet.
I can't remember if I was like that back then. It might be a generations thing. Whatever.

Flame-thrower

A while back some friends and I were brainstorming an apocalyptic story staring - duh - us. Was thinking about it earlier today and this is the result; a rough sketch of a character loosely based off my bud Amanda M. Etzel and her love of mechanics and flame-throwers.

Comic 27

I know I'm way behind on these so here's comic 27.

Kali

This is a piece I did in memory of beloved Thuy Trang; a fiercely talented and wonderfully inspirational person who was taken away from this life far too early.

For this piece I drew her as the vicious drug-lord Kali from The Crow 2, though to me she will always be Trini Kwan, the Yellow Ranger who called upon the power of the saber-toothed tiger zord to battle evil.

Thank you Miss Trang for teaching me focus, patience and honor when I was a kid. You were an amazing role model and I will always remember you. Rest in peace.

To pay your respects to Thuy visit the Thuy Trang Tribute page or follow them on Twitter:

More lines

Line work for a work in progress. The purpose of this piece will be to practice more advanced forms of coloring whilst maintaining the lines. Not certain this will be portfolio worthy but we'll see.
